Revamping a Temu wig and review: A Beginner-Friendly Option with a Little Tweak

As someone who enjoys experimenting with wigs, I was intrigued when I found a 4×4 kinky wig with a yaki texture on Temu. I decided to purchase it with my own money, curious to see how it would perform straight out of the box.

** Spoiler alert** as you can see from the photo, it needed some work, but nothing too complicated!! Here is how I took a basic wig and made it work for me.

When the wig arrived, I was immediately drawn to the medium brown caramel tone. It’s a beautiful, natural color that complements a variety of skin tones. The texture was what I expected from a yaki-style wig–coarse but not overly thick, mimicking the look of relaxed natural hair. While it had potential, the wig definitely needed a little customization before it was wearable.

The great thing about this wig is that it offers plenty of room for tweaking, even for a beginner like me.

Here is how I personalized it:

Plucking the Hairline and Parting: The wig came with a 4×4 lace closure, which gives you some versatility in styling. However, the hairline and parting were dense and unnatural. I took some time to pluck both the hairline and the parting space, which made the wig look more like it was growing from my scalp.
Cutting Bangs and Layering the Front: I love a good frame around my face, so I cut bangs and layered the front to give the wig some shape. This small tweak made all the difference in how it looked, taking it from average to something that felt uniquely me.

If you’re looking for an affordable, beginner-friendly wig to practice customizing or adding your personal touch, I’d recommend giving this one a try. It’s a solid base that you can tweak to match your personal style without breaking the bank.

The Verdict:

If you’re looking for an affordable, beginner-friendly wig to practice customizing or adding your personal touch, I’d recommend giving this one a try. It’s a solid base that you can tweak to match your personal style without breaking the bank.
